My name is Richard Thompson, and I’m delighted you’ve taken the time to drop by my blog – welcome!

I have been deeply immersed in the tobacco industry for over three decades, starting my journey as a junior sales rep for British American Tobacco, straight out of university. It was there that I discovered my passion for the tobacco industry, appreciating not just the product, but also the history, culture, and intricate processes involved in creating each unique blend. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with some of the leading companies in the industry, including Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International.

One of my most memorable experiences was heading the product development team at Philip Morris. We were tasked with creating innovative blends that were both enjoyable and met the evolving demands of our customers. Seeing our work come to life, from concept to store shelves, was incredibly fulfilling. I have also had the opportunity to travel around the world, from the tobacco farms of Virginia to the cigar factories of Cuba, learning about the diverse tobacco cultures globally.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have received several awards, including the ‘Innovation in Tobacco Processing’ award at the Global Tobacco & Nicotine Forum in 2021. I consider these awards not as personal accolades, but as recognition of the hard work and dedication of the teams I have been a part of.

Currently, I reside in the vibrant city of London, United Kingdom, where I continue to consult for leading tobacco companies while also educating the public about the industry through this blog.

When I’m not involved in tobacco-related work, you’ll find me in the kitchen experimenting with different recipes – I’m a bit of a foodie! I also enjoy long-distance cycling, and have participated in several charity rides across the UK. Photography is another hobby I hold dear, especially capturing landscapes on my travels.
